Cadre5 has been working with ORNL to develop interoperability
as an ORNL Methodology. The goal of the interoperability framework on which ORNL and its partners
have been working is best conveyed as an "Intranet for sensors and detectors" - a network of
loosely-coupled, independent and autonomous networks that share information, both horizontally
and vertically, through secure Web services. Today's Internet protocols, as well as their
evolution to the next generation of internetworking protocols, provide the foundation upon
which a standards-based sensor network framework resides. The framework itself specifies the
conformity of protocols, interfaces, and services to automate and simplify the connection of
detectors and applications to the future networks. This project is known around the country as
“SensorNet.”
