In the global war against terror, ORNL leads and participates in nuclear nonproliferation programs (NNP) to develop, coordinate, and assist in implementing domestic and international policies aimed at reducing the threats from weapons of mass destruction. The primary focus of the NNP is reducing the proliferation of nuclear materials and nuclear weapons and radiological dispersal devices. ORNL was tasked with the objective of building a national network of sensors to help fight terrorism.
